Telangana started celebration for Nagoba Jatara, a popular Tribal Festival from the 11th of February.

The famous event of four days is celebrated with thousands of devotees gathering and worshiping Deity Nagoba.

Nagoba Jatara is an annual festival celebrated in a grand way marking the important tradition and culture of the Mesram clan of Gond tribes.

Tribal communities from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhasttisgarh and Jharkhand worship the deity Nagoba.

The festival began after tribal priests performed abhishekam to the Nagoba Idol at the temple in Keslapur.

Rituals performed at Keslapur Nagoba Jatara begin in the morning where the Mesram elders would place the sacred ‘jhari’, a 1,400- year-old water container before performing it’s puja.

The annual fair which started from ushya Amavasya (new moon day in February) on the 11th of February is being held at Keslapur village of Indervelli Mandal, Telangana.

District collector Sikta Patnaik, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishnu Warrior and the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Athram Sakku attended the jatara and supervised all the arrangements.

The Collector said, the officials took all necessary steps to ensure sanitation, medical services, drinking water facilities, electricity and fodder to the cattle during the four day long fair.

In the wake of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, the jatara is not being held this year in a way like other years.

However, the traditional worship is being held by the Mesram clan. It is the second biggest tribal festival, celebrated in Telangana
