Telangana CM Directs To Release Prisoners With Good Conduct On August 15

K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 22nd of July,  instructed the State police department to release prisoners with good conduct on the 15th of August.

Mr. Rao asked the officials to make a list of prisoners who behaved well in the past and release them on the occasion of Independence Day.

Mr. Rao, conducted a meeting with government officials like Somesh Kumar,  the Chief Secretary of Telangana, M. Mahendar Reddy, the Director General of Police (DGP) in Telangana and other officials.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the same and examined the guidelines pertaining to the release of the prisoners. 

Earlier in April, the process of temporary release of under-trial and remand prisoners in Telangana in the wake of coronavirus outbreak had begun.

On the 23rd of March, the Supreme Court had directed all the states and Union Territories to constitute high-level committees to consider releasing on parole or interim bail prisoners and undertrials for offences entailing up to seven- year jail term to decongest prisons in view of the pandemic Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
