Telangana Extends Lockdown Till 29th May With A Few Relaxations

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 5th of May, announced an extension in the ongoing lockdown.

Mr. Rao after a Cabinet meeting said, considering the increasing number of the Novel Coronavirus cases in the State, the Cabinet decided to extend the lockdown till the 29th of May.

Mr. Rao said, “People want (the) lockdown extended. I have informed the Prime Minister about our decision.”

However, this time the lockdown extension came with a few relaxations to the people in the State.   Agriculture, construction, shops manufacturing agricultural products, selling fertilizers, cement would remain  open.

Small IT industries and companies could also function in rural areas following the social distancing norms and rules of the lockdown.

Shops in Green and Orange Zones could open from 10:00 A.M., to 6:00 P.M., following there would be curfew in the State.  Mr. Rao said, “Public should complete (the) purchase of essential items by 6 pm and they should reach their residences. There will be curfew in the state from 7 pm. If anyone is found outside, police will initiate action.”  In municipal towns, only 50% of shops would be allowed to open, which would be decided through a lottery system.

In addition, liquor shops are allowed to open in mandals, villages, Green and Orange Zones, only if the shops follow the social distancing norms.  Wearing a face mask is mandatory in the State.

Concern about the 10th standard exams, the State Government said they would appeal to the Telangana High Court and would seek permission to conduct remaining papers.

Meanwhile in Red Zones only shops selling essential commodities would be open with strict guidelines of social distancing and lockdown rules.

The 6 Red Zones in the State are Hyderabad, Malkajgiri-Medchal, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Rangareddy and Warangal Urban.

The next Cabinet meeting to discuss the lockdown implementation and relaxation is scheduled to be held on the 15th of May.
