CRPF Jawan Killed In Kupwara Encounter To Be Laid To Rest Today

On the 6th of May, the mortal remains of  C. Chandrasekar, a 31 year old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, would be laid to rest.

On the 5th of May, three CRPF jawans, Ashwani Kumar Yadav, C. Chandrasekar and Santosh Kumar Mishra were killed in an encounter with the militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.  The incident took place while the jawans were patrolling the area and the militants opened fire at the jawans in the Kupwara district.

The Kupwara incident was reported a day after the Handwara encounter incident.   On the 2nd of May, three security personnel and 2 Army officers were killed in an encounter with terrorists.

Beside the Army Jawan, a 15 year old civilian also lost his life in the encounter on the 4th of May. The news was confirmed by Jammu and Kashmir Police on the 5th of May.

Anand Prakash Maheshwari, the Director General of CRPF, said, “I salute the courage and valour of Shaheed Ct Mishra, Shaheed Ct Chandershekhar and Shaheed Ct Ashwani who made the Supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. We pledge our commitment to the families of the (soldiers.)”

The Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF and the Army cordoned off the attack site and launched a search operation in the area to track down the militants.

While the mortal remains of the two other jawans were laid to rest on the 5th of May, Chandraseka’s mortal remains would be laid today.  After being flown to Thiruvananthapuram from Delhi, the mortal remains of this soldier would be brought around Noon to Moontruvaaikaal, his native place, where the last rites would be performed.  C. Chandrasekar  is survived by his wife, Jenifer Christy, 27, and 18-month-old son John Peter.

However, due to the nationwide lockdown, the police instructed Chandrasekar’s family to not allow large gatherings in the village before and during the last rites.
