In Telangana’s Pahadi Shareef area, businessmen are selling fruits openly to the public without safety measures, a regulatory system and appropriate approvals from the Telangana State Government.
It is to be noted, two years ago, the Government of Telangana moved Kothapet Fruit Market to Batasingaram, saying the new fruit market is more spacious to perform business.
Unhappy with the decision, merchants displaced from Kothapet Fruit Market approached the Telangana State Wakf Board, which leased out 12 acres of land at Mamidipally village near Pahadi Shareef in the Rangareddy district for business.
The merchant started a business and set up wholesale trade of the fruits even before putting into play facilities like proper electricity, water supply, boundary wall, sufficient arrangements for storage of fruits and other safety measures. Getting into the details regarding this fruit trade in operation without the necessary government approvals, it is said that a group of fruit merchants took the Telangana State Wakf Board into confidence and used political influence.
Mr. Syed Iftekhar Hussaini, a community activist said, “How come a few merchants were allowed to set up a private fruit market without putting into play proper safety measures as the fruit being sold their would be consumed by the public?” He also questioned the 12 acres of land allotment to a private merchant, who is now operating a business without any proper approval and supervision of the Agriculture Department.
Meanwhile, the Agriculture Department and the Telangana State Wakf Board (TSWB) is yet to reply to the matter.
