The Telangana High Court (HC,) on the 14th of May, directed the Telangana Government to conduct the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 test on dead bodies.

Recently, the Telangana Government directed medical staff to restrict COVID-19 tests to patients with mild symptoms without testing secondary suspect and dead people.

The Telangana HC reviewed the matter after  Prof. P.L. Vishweshwar Rao, the Vice President of the Telangana Jana Samithi (TRS) filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding the same.

The petitioner said doctors in Nellore and Kurnool were tested positive after their death and hence the State Government should test dead bodies for COVID-19.

The petitioner also argued over the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines which does not not mention collecting samples from dead bodies for the tests.

The Court also asked the government to follow the guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO.)  It also asked to submit a detailed report on the guidelines being followed by the Central Government by  the 26th of May and adjourned the case until the further notice.
