The Telangana High Court (HC) reviewed a defamation suit filed by Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology and Urban Development Minister of Telangana.
On the 21st of September, Mr. Rama Rao filed the defamation case against the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mr. A. Revanth Reddy. The case was in regard to the recent linkage of Mr. Rama Rao to drugs and White Challenge. The TPCC President cited the recent drug bust scandal against Tollywood celebrities. Although there has been no established evidence against the celebrities, the opposition criticised the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government and asked its leaders to take the drug analysis test (the White Challenge.) The Enforcement Directorate is currently investigating the matter.
Reacting to the same, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao not only accepted the challenge but gave another lie detector test challenge to Mr. Revanth Reddy. The war of words intensified, which later took a legal turn after the TRS Minister filed a defamation case with the HC.
During the court hearing, the Telangana HC directed the TPCC President not to link Mr. K.T. Rama Rao with the drugs issue. The single bench HC judge issued an order restraining Mr. Revanth Reddy from making any further derogatory comments either by the way of print/electronic media/ in public or private including social media linking the minister with the drugs case.
With this, the Telangana High Court adjourned the matter to the 20th of October.
