On the 25th of October, Monday, the Telangana High Court (HC,) reviewed a petition regarding the Dalit Bandhu Scheme.
The Telangana HC reviewed two Public Interest Litigations (PILs) against the State Election Commission (SEC’s) decision to stop the Dalit Bandhu scheme in Huzurabad.
The PILs were filed by journalist Mallepalli Laxmaiah and social worker and Mr. Bukka Judson, a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC.) Their PILs said that welfare schemes should not be stopped on account of elections.
Recently, on the 18th of October, the EC announced to stop the Dalit Bandhu scheme, which is providing financial benefits to the Dalit people in the Huzurabad Assembly constituency in the wake of the upcoming by election. The Huzurabad constituency is set to contest the by election for thr Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and the Implementation of the TRS’s Dalit Bandhu scheme was as per the rules under the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in effect since the election notification was issued.
However, opposing the decision of the SEC, two people filed PILs. The bench comprising of Justice Mr.Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Mr. Rajasekhar Reddy dealt with the three PILs. To justify themselved the petitioners said, the TRS Government implemented the Dalit Bandhu Scheme ahead of the Huzurabad by poll notification was released. They also urged to continue the scheme similarly like the Centre’s ‘Poshan Abhiyaan,’ benefiting the Dalit community. The petition read, “There is a possibility of suicides by the economically backward people if Dalit Bandhu is stopped in the State.”
The Telangana Court heard the PIL and reserved the decision for the next day, the 26th of October.
It is to be noted, the Huzurabad by election is scheduled to be held on the 30th of October, which is also the last date of MCC in effect.
