On Monday, the Telangana public representatives and legislators received quite a surprising and unusual wedding invite. This was an invite to the wedding of Jitender, son of the TRS MLC Sabavat Ramulu Naik. The card was accompanied by a Sherwani and a thick silver bangle to be donned on it.

Narender Sabavat, elder son of Ramulu said that this was a custom in their community. The wedding planned on April 16 will be held at the Nizam College grounds and is expected to be an extravagant affair. Sabavat, speaking to the media said, “Not many people today may be following the custom, but it is a tradition in our community. My father is sticking to that tradition.”

The Banjara tribal women are quite famous for donning silver jewellery, especially bangles and it is the community’s custom to gift silver. Sabavat, however, did not respond about how much the bangle in the invitation weighed. This gift apart from ministers was also extended to relatives and friends of Ramulu.

Ramulu was elected in the Governors quota as MLC in 2014 as a representative of the Banjara community. He is said to have met the CM KCR and gave him the first invitation for the wedding.
