Acting upon the complaint of Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President of Telangana, the Lok Sabha Privilege committee sent a notice to the Telangana Government.

On the 22nd of January, the committee served notices to the Telangana Chief Secretary Mr. Somesh Kumar, the Telangana Home Secretary and Mr. Ravi Gupta, the director general of Hyderabad Police. Along with these officials, notice was also issued to the Director General Police (DGP) of Telangana Mr. Mahender Reddy and other police officials. Besides these officials, the Karimnagar CP Mr. V. Satyanarayana, the Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Srinivas Rao, the Jagtial DSP Mr. Prakash and the Karimnagar inspector Mr. Lakshmi Babu were also served privilege committee notices.

The Privileged Committee directed all the aforementioned officials to appear before them, on the 3rd of February. Notably, Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar filed a complaint with the committee, that the officials are alleged in the matter to be breach of privileges. Mr. Kumar said the Karimnagar Police attacked him without any reason. The complaint was registered on the 21st of January, Friday and the notices were issued on the 22nd of January, Saturday.

Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar said, “The police violated his rights as the member of parliament and broke the door during the ‘Jagaran’ at the camp office and smashed the doors with gas cutters.”

What was the incident, regarding which Bandi Sanjay Kumar registered the complaint? 

Notably, On the 2nd of January, Sunday, the Telangana Police arrested Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who was staging a protest against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Telangana Chief Minister Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao. He held a protest against the recent Government Order (GO) 317, which issued specific guidelines on employees transfer.

Raising voice against the GO 317, BJP unit in Telangana staged “Jaagran Deeksha” in Karimnagar. However, due to permission issues, they were detained by the Karimnagar Police. The police said the protest was carried out without any permission, amid the Wuhan virus (COVID-19) restrictions. Therefore, they arrested the protesting BJP leaders. He was given a 14 days remand, which was later dismissed by the Telangana High Court, after Mr Bandi Sanjay Kumar filed a bail petition.

The panel headed by Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh launched an investigation in the matter and asked the officials to appear before the committee on the 3rd of February.
