Telangana Minister Urges Farmers to Avoid Rabi Crops Amid Water Concerns

Telangana Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy has urged farmers to avoid growing crops during the upcoming Yasangi (Rabi) season due to low rainfall and concerns over the possible effects of El Niño.

The minister warned that the state could face water shortages in the coming months. El Niño is a weather pattern that can affect rainfall in different parts of the world.

Ponguleti assured farmers who have already grown Kharif crops that the government would take steps to maintain irrigation supplies. Kharif crops are grown during the monsoon season, while Rabi crops are usually grown in the cooler months.

The minister also urged people to save water and electricity as the state prepares for possible shortages. He stressed that drinking water needs must be given priority along with the water required for farming.

His appeal comes as farmers prepare for the next crop season. The government’s main concern is to manage available water supplies and support farmers who have already planted crops.
