BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) congratulated chess player Malika Handa on winning a bronze medal at the Asia Pacific Deaf Multi-Sport Championship 2026 in Penang, Malaysia.
Handa won the medal in the women’s classical individual chess event. Reacting to her achievement on X, KTR praised her determination and said he was proud to have supported her journey.
KTR also recalled helping Handa in 2022, when he provided ₹15 lakh from his personal funds and gifted her a laptop to support her sporting career.
At the time, KTR was serving as Telangana’s IT Minister. He had also urged then Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to help Handa secure a government job.
In his message, KTR wished Handa more victories in the future and described her achievement as inspiring.
His congratulatory message has brought attention to Handa’s latest success on the international chess stage.
