Sircilla Weaver Creates Special Shawl for Dubai’s Ruling Family

A handloom weaver from Telangana’s Rajanna Sircilla district has created a special shawl featuring portraits of Dubai’s ruling family. The shawl was unveiled during Bathukamma celebrations in Dubai on October 11.

Veldi Hariprasad, a master weaver, designed the shawl to showcase Sircilla’s weaving skills and express respect for the UAE leadership on behalf of Telangana workers living in the Gulf.

The shawl was presented at the 16th Bathukamma celebrations, organised by the Emirates Telangana Cultural Association at Al Ahli Sports Club in Dubai. Thousands of Telangana expatriates and other members of the Indian community attended the event.

The portraits were woven into the fabric using fine threads, highlighting the skill of Sircilla’s handloom workers.

Former minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Korutla MLA Kalvakuntla Sanjay and other community representatives attended the unveiling.

Balu Kayithi, CEO of Balagam TV, and Sircilla-based contractor Jupally Venkata Rao supported the project financially.

The organisers are making arrangements to formally present the shawl to Dubai’s ruling family. The initiative aims to promote Telangana’s traditional weaving skills and strengthen cultural ties between India and the UAE.
