Telangana Monsoon Assembly Session Begins From September 7, Amid COVID-19

The Telangana Government would conduct the Monsoon Assembly session from the 7th of September, amid the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

The session would begin to discuss several key issues in Telangana including the COVID-19 situation and prevention.

Prior to the Monsoon Assembly session, all the Telangana Cabinet ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) and others would undergo a COVID-19 test.

The arrangements for the Monsoon Session were made considering the guidelines of the COVID-19 including sanitization, social distancing and mandatory wearing of face masks.

Everyone including the MLAs, MLCs, Ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs,) legislative staff, police and media personnel are all mandatorily required to undergo the Novel Coronavirus test.

People with a negative report for the Novel Coronavirus test only would be allowed to enter the premises.

The premises where the session is being conducted would be sanitized twice a day.

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, recently during a press conference announced the major topics which would be discussed during the session. 

He addressed the media and said, ”

The legislative session should be held upholding democratic values. There is no other platform other than the legislature to discuss matters on people’s issues and take appropriate decisions. We have to utilise this platform and opportunity. The Telangana Legislature should be held as an ideal one for others in the country to look up for inspiration. The members should analyse how the programmes and Acts implemented by the government are performing at the field level. The members should be able to point out if there were some lacunae somewhere.”

KCR further added, “The Government will answer each and every query raised by the members. The ruling party members also should mention each and every issue of the people.”

The major topics which would be highlight of the Monsoon Assembly session are COVID-19 situation, agriculture development, welfare schemes, fire at Srisailam hydel project, attempts by the Andhra Pradesh Government to illegally construct the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme and others.

Another issue that is expected to figure prominently in the course of the Assembly session would be the Central Government’s approach to Goods and Service Tax (GST) amount, which is due to be paid to Telangana.

Meanwhile, a few bills including the new Revenue Bill, resolution seeking Bharat Ratna to be conferred posthumously on former Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao would be introduced.

The Monsoon Assembly session is likely to continue for three weeks.

However, an official date is yet to be announced.
