The IMD’s alert announcement came after K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, sounded an alert as heavy rains triggered flood like situation.

Mr. Rao, on the 15th of August, reviewed the heavy rain like situation over a meeting at Pragati Bhavan. Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, Mahender Reddy and Chief Secretary of Telangana, Somesh Kumar were present during the high level meeting.

Telangana witnesses heavy rains this year, especially in areas like Bhupalpally district, Karimnagar, Warangal and Hyderabad.

In the past two days, due to heavy rainfall, several tanks and canals were overflowing. The reason for the heavy rain is under the influence of a low pressure area off Bay of Bengal.

The State Government even asked for the help of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district to rescue 14 farmers. The farmers were stuck in floodwater in Kundanpally village when they were on their fields to pump out excess water.

In regard to the situation, the senior officials concerned with the current flood like situation are prepared with two helicopters.

They will be utilised to rescue people stranded in the floodwater.

Along with a helicopter owned by the state, a chopper from the military was also kept ready for use.

Meanwhile, IMD officials said districts like Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Jayashankar Bhupalpally received rainfall of two months in just two days.

IMD also forecasted extremely heavy rainfall for a few days in Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Warangal, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mancherial districts.
