Telangana Police Registers Case Against Priest For Hitting And Threatening Devotee

A priest of Secunderabad Temple has been alleged of hitting a devotee, following which he was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC,) on the 7th of March, Monday.

The Gopalapuram Police registered a case against Prabhakar Sharman, for allegedly hitting and threatening a devotee identified as Valmiki Rao.  According to the police, the priest warned the devotee from entering the prohibited temple area and when he did not listen, Prabhakar Sharman hit and threatened Valmiki.

Although the incident happened on the 27th of February, and it came into light on the 7th of March.  The Police said, “The incident took place on February 27 at Ganesh Temple near Rathifile Bus Stand.  The temple was crowded with devotees and temple staff.”  The Police further added, “A case was registered against the priest the next day. Police considered it as a non-cognizable offense and sought legal opinion after the complaint was registered, following which Sections 323 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)were imposed. Police said that the case is being investigated further.”

The investigation is underway.
