In the wake of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, primary schools in Telangana might be closed for a few more months in 2021.
The Education Department of Telangana took the decision not to reopen schools for the current 2020-2021 academic year for primary classes.
The decision was taken in the wake of the COVID-19 infection.
According to the higher officials of the Department, the new strain of COVID-19 and the Coronavirus infection likely to increase the risk for children of primary classes. As the COVID-19 vaccine is not yet ready and there is a risk of a new strain, it is better to conduct online classes for students. Moreover, the guardians of the students may not send their wards to the schools.
Another major reason not to resume primary classes are, students of primary classes would not be able to maintain physical distancing.
According to a source in the Education Department, Special Chief Secretary Chitra Ramachandran, held a meeting with high officials of the Department where a decision was taken in this regard.
As per an estimate, about 11.36 lakhs students are studying in Government primary schools.
On the other hand, nearly 15 lakh students are studying in private primary schools.
