The schools and educational institutions in Telangana would continue with online classes from the 1st of July.

On the 28th of June, P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Education Minister of Telangana, directed schools and colleges to commence classes online. The decision was taken in the wake of the ongoing second wave of the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.) Ms. Indra Reddy said, the COVID-19 situation in Telangana is not favourable to conduct offline classes, hence the government/private schools need to continue their respective classes digitally.

It is to be noted, recently the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government announced to reopen schools and educational institutions from the 1st of July. The State Government was scheduled to reopen classes for students in a phased manner, beginning from the 1st of July.

However, after criticism from opposition parties like the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and considering the current situation along with the possible third wave, the KCR Government reversed the decision.

Meanwhile, students with internet connection could conduct online classes from their residence, whereas children without internet connectivity at home could watch the content of the class studies on Television. Channels like TSAT, Doordarshan would be telecasting study material for students of higher secondary classes.

The State Minister said, students who do not have television at their home, could visit the Gram Panchayat office to access the digital classes.

On the other hand, due to the strict imposition of the recent lockdown and other precautions to contain the spread of COVID-19, Telangana has a low number of Coronavirus cases. Till date, the State has 13,869 active cases with 993 new cases in the past 24 hours.

Stay tuned for further updates.
