Telangana is carrying out a major review of its voter list ahead of the next elections. The process allows officials to check voter details, correct errors and review names on the electoral rolls. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has now made changes to the schedule.
The ECI has extended the deadline for issuing notices and handling voter claims and objections to November 26. It will publish the final voter list on November 30.
The Commission revised the dates following a request from Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy. Earlier, officials had to complete the process by November 5 and publish the final list on November 9.
Before the review began, Telangana had 3.38 crore registered voters. Officials have cleared 2.59 crore names for inclusion in the final list so far.
The ECI also reported that officials had delivered over 92.81 lakh notices and completed hearings for more than 92.08 lakh notices as of Thursday.
The revised schedule gives officials more time to complete the process before publishing the final electoral rolls.
