On Tuesday, the Hyderabad Police said that a 22 year old woman had allegedly drowned her newborn, minutes after delivery at a private hospital in the city. After inquiry, the police said that the woman hailed from Khammam district and joined in a private hospital as lab technician last week. She is unmarried and was six months pregnant when she joined.
Durga Prasad, the Inspector of Raidurgam Police Station said that the Hospital was not aware that the woman was pregnant. She was relieved from her shift on Sunday evening and went home. At around 1:30 A.M., the staff of the hospital heard baby cries from the washroom. When a senior manager and two nurses started a search in the premises, through a gap in the washroom door they saw the woman drowning her newborn son in a bucket of water.
The police said that the staff forced an entry and found the baby dead. Also, the room was filled with blood, a clear indication of heavy bleeding following a forced delivery. The woman was immediately shifted to a treatment ward for surgery and police were intimated about the whole incident.
The Police had said that the woman has been booked under a murder case and will be taken into custody for question after recovering. The police suspect that the unmarried status prompted the woman in taking the step of murdering her own newborn son.
