The G20 Summit will be conducted in Hamburg in Germany and is themed on ‘Shaping an interconnected World.’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived to attend the Summit on Friday after wrapping up his three day visit to Israel.
The Summit is being conducted by Germany on July 7th and 8th. Modi’s office tweeted, “PM @narendramodi reaches Hamburg for the G20 Summit. Key multilateral and bilateral engagements will take place through the summit.”
On Saturday, Narendra Modi will participate in a meeting with the leaders of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.) The Prime Minister will also have bilateral meetings with a few of the world leaders in Germany.
The India and China relations have been tense with the ongoing border standoff and both sides have clarified there will be no official meeting between the two world leaders at the G20.
A Senior government official from China said, “The atmosphere is not right for a bilateral meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Gopal Baglay has been traveling with Narendra Modi in Israel and said, “As mentioned earlier, the PM is visiting Hamburg from July 6 to 8 for the G20 summit. His bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit are with Argentina President Mauricio Macri, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, Japan PM Shinzo Abe, Mexico PM Enrique Pena Nieto, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, UK PM Theresa May and Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. There is no change in the Prime Minister’s schedule.”
