A restaurant at Michigan is offering free meals to anyone who finds themselves alone on Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is traditionally a day for family gatherings and blow-out meals but just like Christmas Day, many people find themselves alone and lonely on what should be a day of celebration.
The owner of the restaurant said, ‘I was young, didn’t have much food and someone gave it to me and I was appreciative of it and I remember those people’
And it is this charity which George now wishes to pay forward.
The owner put a banner outside his food court which read George’s Thanksgiving Day dinner: If anyone is home alone, come and eat with us for free! ALL DAY’
George explained that he’s actually been offering this refuge for 10 years, and plans to do so for many more years to come: ‘I do this every year and I will keep doing this as long as I live’
On the day the restaurant will be open from 6.30am to 9pm as usual, and will be serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner to anyone who arrives, totally free of charge. George said: ‘Maybe I don’t make money but I feel happy to do that.’
