The firing of pellet guns by security forces at protesters resulted in the death of a 12-year old boy in Srinagar. This incident sparked widespread anger in the city and prompted authorities to impose a curfew.

The 12-year-old, Junaid Ahmed was severely injured after being hit by a rain of pellets outside his home in Saidpora, in Srinagar.

Junaid was not a part of the protests that were happening in the area. “He was standing at the main gate of his home in the Saidpora area in the downtown area of the City when he was hit by a volley of pellets,” said an official who did not want to be named.

Junaid died at the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences after locals shifted him there. He was critically injured as dozens of pellets hit his head and his chest.

The streets were crowded with hundreds protesting his death, shouting slogans against the government.
