Geetha Kapoor was seen in the iconic movie of 1972 Pakeezah and also starred in nearly a 100 Bollywood films. The veteran actress is now 58 years old and is struggling at Mumbai’s Gurgaon SRV hospital.
Geetha Kapoor is not just struggling with her health but also with the fact that both her children have abandoned her. Her son admitted her at the hospital for failing blood pressure. The hospital asked for a deposit which was when the son left on the pretext to withdraw cash and never returned.
News traveled fast and the media arrived at the hospital to interview the actress. Kapoor said that her son was abusive and beat her up on a regular basis because she was against his philandering ways. The son would feed her only once in four days and kept her locked up for days as well. According to Geetha, it was in an attempt to make her ill, so he could get rid of her.
She also added, “I was not ready to go to an old age home, that’s why he planned all this. He deliberately kept me hungry and I fell ill. Then, he got me admitted here and fled.”
The doctors treating Geetha informed the media that Raja, her son, refused to answer calls for nearly 15 days. The doctors then called him from a different number and when they got in touch with him, he said he would return but never did.
Geetha has a daughter named Pooja, a Pune based flight attendant. The daughter was contacted once Raja’s phone was switched off. Pooja answered the call and immediately hung up saying it was a wrong number.
The hospital sent an ambulance to Raja’s residence to track him down, only to find out from the neighbors that he had packed his belongings and left.
Ashoke Pandit, filmmaker and Central Board of Film Certification member heard about Geetha’s plight and came to her rescue.
Pandit said, “After reaching the hospital I cleared the bills, and I wanted to tell the hospital guys that she will be taken care of, so there are no insecurities from the hospital’s side and they would continue treating her. Paying the bills was not a big thing, really. I saw my mother in her.”
