On Monday, a baby boy was born aboard a Jet Airways airplane at 35,000 feet above sea level. The plane was traveling from Saudi Arabia to India. As his first birthday gift, the airlines presented him with a free lifetime pass on their planes.
The expectant mother was aboard Jet Airways flight 9W 569 from Dammam in Saudi for Kochi. The plane took off at 2:55 A.M., and the expectant mother went into premature labor. A medical emergency was declared and the flight was diverted to Mumbai.
While traveling over the Arabian Sea, the crew requested for a doctor, in whose absence a nurse, Wilson, came forward to help deliver the child. The airlines’ staff, along with the nurse delivered the baby on board.
The mother and baby were rushed to hospital after landing in Mumbai and were reported to be in good health. The airlines, in a statement, said, “Being the first baby to be born in flight for the airline, Jet Airways is pleased to offer the newly born a free lifetime pass for all his travel on Jet Airways.”
The plane resumed its journey to Kochi and reached at 12:45 P.M., after a 90 minutes delay.
