Shankar, a Hindi teacher at Rockwell High School, tried to slit the throat of a class 9 student with a blade, on Saturday morning in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh.
Shankar, in an intoxicated state, went to the residence of the victim in Bangarupeta and allegedly tried to slit her throat because she rejected his romantic advances earlier.
The screams of the girl alarmed the neighbours, who rushed to the spot for her rescue. They tied Shankar to a poll and beat him up. Later, the accused slit his own throat with the same blade he used to attack the victim.
The neighbours admitted the girl to a Kurnool government hospital for treatment and informed the police about the attack. Soon, the police arrived at the spot and took Shankar to a government hospital.
According to sources, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, the Human Resource Development Minister of Andhra Pradesh, ordered for Shankar’s suspension. The police are investigating the incident.
