The Supreme Court (SC,) on the 17th of March, announced a review petition filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) for the 18th of March.
Since the 16 of March, the Kamal Nath led Indian National Congress (INC,) decided to delay the floor test as the Madhya Pradesh Government has been on the edge of being collapsed.
Recently, 22 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the INC resigned from the Party, reducing the majority number of MLAs in Madhya Pradesh (M.P.) The resignations came after Jyotiraditya Scindia, one of the strongest members of the INC resigned and joined the BJP.
With these updates, the floor test or Trust vote would decide which party would form the state government and rule.
While the BJP which has 107 MLAs of their own is emphasising on an immediate floor test, the INC with 99 MLAs and 5 independent MLAs is trying to delay this vote.
In regards to this, the BJP approached the SC seeking orders to conduct the Motion of Confidence within 12 hours of the issued orders.
Shivraj Singh Chaouhan, the former Chief Minister of M.P., and a senior leader of the BJP filed the petition against Kamal Nath, the Chief Minister of M.P., demanding a floor test.
However, the SC postponed the review hearing to 10:30 A.M., on the 18th of March.
Justice D.Y. Chandrachud issued a notice to the Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, the principal secretary, Mr. Kamal Nath the C.M., and Mr. Lalji Tandon the Governor of M.P., to conduct a quick floor test.
Acting upon the same, Governor Lalji Tandon asked the Kamal Nath led government to conduct the floor test soon.
The floor test which was initially scheduled to be held on the 16th of March, would decide the fate of the INC and the BJP. Whichever Party has a majority of the MLAs, it would stake claims and form the State Government.
