K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology (IT) Electronics and Communications Minister of Telangana, on the 30th of October, unveiled the electric vehicle (EV) policy in Telangana.
According to the new EV policy, the State Government exempted road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles.
Nearly two lakh electric two wheelers, 5,000 electric cars, 20,000 electric commercial vehicles and 500 electric buses have also been removed from paying taxes.
Under the new EV policy, 2,500 electric cars would be used for commercial purposes like cabs.
In addition, 10,000 electric light commercial vehicles (LCVs) including tractors would also get similar benefits.
All the electric vehicles which are bought for commercial purposes would get incentives from the Telangana Government.
The new EV policy was approved by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government in August 2020.
The main agenda to implement the new EV policy is to promote clean energy .
The new policy would also help the State to become a hub of electric vehicles in the future.
The launch event of the new EV policy was a low key affair.
Telangana Cabinet ministers like Transport minister Puvvada Ajay, NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Kant, Mahindra and Mahindra Managing Director Pavan Kumar Goenka, the IT Department Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Yes Bank Chairman Sunil Mehta and others were present during the event.
With this, Telangana is also the third State to implement EV policy. The first two states and union territory are Gujarat and Delhi.
