The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Members of Parliament (MPs) on the evening of the 3rd of February, met the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
During the meeting, the TDP MPs including Galla Jagadev and Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar complained about the ongoing ‘attacks and atrocities.’
The TDP leaders said, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly and other leaders are harassing the opposition leaders and uttering disrespectful words to all the constitutional systems and institutions.
The TDP MPs requested Amit Shah to intervene and restore law and order so as to ensure a free and fair election in the state.
According to the TDP leaders, after the State Election Commission (SEC) announced the schedule of the A.P., Grama Panchayat elections, the ruling YSRCP is creating chaos in the State.
Another major reason behind such attacks and political tactics to disturb the Grama Panchayat elections is said to be that the YSRCP is against the conduct of the Panchayat elections amid the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 vaccination drive.
Concerned about the situation in A.P., amid the upcoming elections, the TDP MPs said Central Government’s intervention is badly required in view of the non stop attacks on the constitutional institution of the State Election Commission.
Briefing the media later, TDP MPs Galla Jayadev and Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar said they informed Mr. Shah about the conduct of the YSRCP on the TDP leaders.
They said the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP was resorting to all round attacks and atrocities on women, media, judges, weaker sections, opposition leaders, temples and now on the rival candidates in the panchayat elections. They also alleged the YSRCP leaders of kidnappings and killings in order to prevent the rival candidates from filing nominations and from contesting in the polls
The allegations of kidnapping and murder was based on the recent mysterious murder of the husband of a TDP Sarpanch candidate.
On the morning of the 1st of February, Sabella Srinivas Reddy, S. Pushpavathi’s husband was found hanging dead from a tree in a forest.
He was missing since the night of the 31st of January and was said to be abducted by miscreants.
The TDP MPs submitted a memorandum, reports and photographs proving their allegations.
In addition, they also highlighted a case registered against the TDP member.
The YSRCP members filed an attempt to murder case against the A.P., President of the TDP K. Atchannaidu.
As of now, Mr. Atchannaidu is in jail along with 22 other Party members for allegedly threatening a YSRCP Sarpanch candidate.
They also said, the State Election Commissioner N. Ramesh Kumar is also being targeted in the State. He was not being allowed to discharge his functions peacefully.
The TDP MPs accused the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy Government of trying to make the Panchayat elections a one sided affair.
The meeting concluded with an assurance from Amit Shah. The Union Home Minister said, the Central Government would look into the memorandum they had submitted and to take necessary action.
Meanwhile, the Grama Panchayat elections of Andhra Pradesh are scheduled to be held in four phases. The first phase is scheduled on the 9th of February, followed by the 13th of February, the 17th of February and the 21st of February.
