On the 30th of October, Saturday, Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, met with the Pope Francis.

The meeting was at the Vatican and Mr. Narendra Modi extended an invitation to the Pope and asked him to visit India.   It is to be noted, the Pope is the head of the Catholic Church in Rome.

Taking to Twitter after his first-ever meeting with the Pope, Mr. Narendra Modi said, “Had a very warm meeting with Pope Francis.  I had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues with him and also invited him to visit India.”

Initially, Mr. Narendra Modi was scheduled to meet Pope Francis for 20 minutes, but the meeting continued for an hour.

During the meeting, the duo discussed a wide range of topics, including the fight against climate change and removing poverty.

After 1999, this would be the first Pope to visit India. In 1999, under the leadership of the then Prime Minister of India late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Pope John Paul II had come to India.

Mr. Narendra Modi is on a three day visit to Italy to attend the G20 Summit in Rome from where he will proceed to Glasgow for the UN COP26.

He is scheduled to return to India on the 1st of November.
