Disappointed with the new “Agnipath Recruitment Scheme” in Army, aspirants staged a violent protest erupted in Bihar and Uttarakhand. On June 16, they intensified their protests and torched trains and public properties.
They also started stone-pelting at Ara railway station. The protestors demanded the withdrawal of the scheme, which limits service years and age limit for training from 17.5 years to 21 years with an early exit from army services.
The protest was also carried out in regions of Uttar Pradesh, where the aspirants were demanding the old process for the recruitment of the army cadres.

On the 14th of June, Tuesday, Mr. Rajnath Singh, the Union Defence Minister of India, launched a new defense recruitment model called the ‘Agnipath.’ The new model was launched after being approved by the Union Cabinet and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA,) for the betterment of the armed forces in India.
As per the newly launched Agnipath scheme, young soldiers would be released after four years of service, paving way for the new ones who want to serve the nation in the Indian Army.
It would help to train them for new technologies & also improve their health levels. This scheme will increase employment opportunities with new skills in different sectors.”
Furthermore, the Union Minister said under the new recruitment scheme, there would be a good exit package for the soldiers, called as “Agnivirs” after four years of their service.
The new scheme for recruiting in the Indian Army would give a new technology-based recruitment process and better services to the Indian Army.
