Amaravati: Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Pattabhiram has emphasized the need to establish advanced sewage treatment plants (STPs) across Andhra Pradesh capable of purifying sewage to drinking water standards. During a study tour on solid and liquid waste management in various states, he inspected Surat’s state-of-the-art STPs on Wednesday.

Pattabhiram highlighted the advanced two-stage purification process implemented by the Surat Municipal Corporation, which treats 1,076 million liters of sewage daily. The treated water, purified to drinking water standards, is supplied to the city’s textile industries.

He stressed that while many states have adopted sewage treatment systems, Surat’s advanced methodology stands out. Inspired by this, Pattabhiram announced Swachhandhra Sanstha’s efforts to replicate this model in Andhra Pradesh. He envisions setting up STPs in densely populated cities across the state to treat large volumes of sewage, aiming to supply the purified water to industries, thereby conserving natural water resources.

This initiative is seen as a step toward sustainable urban waste management and addressing water scarcity issues in the state. Pattabhiram’s efforts align with the broader goal of enhancing environmental standards and promoting industrial development through innovative water management practices.
