Coimbatore: The recent sexual harassment incident at Anna University, Chennai, has ignited widespread criticism, with severe backlash against the ruling DMK government. In response, Tamil Nadu BJP state president K. Annamalai has taken a symbolic stance, pledging to walk barefoot and endure six lashes as a form of protest.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Annamalai lambasted the DMK government, accusing it of failing to uphold justice. “Until the DMK government is overthrown, I will not wear shoes. I will walk barefoot and contest elections without using money to lure voters. I will only wear sandals after we win,” he declared.
In a dramatic gesture, Annamalai received six lashes at his residence in Coimbatore on Friday, witnessed by BJP supporters and the media. He also announced plans to undertake a 48-hour fast and visit six Murugan temples across Tamil Nadu.
During the event, BJP workers held placards condemning the harassment incident and demanding strict action against the accused. Annamalai justified his actions as part of Tamil culture, stating, “This is a way of submitting ourselves to God and protesting against the injustice in the state.”
