Microsoft has launched its fourth cloud region in India in Hyderabad, strengthening the city’s role in the country’s growing technology and artificial intelligence sector. The new India South Central region was launched on September 21 as part of Microsoft’s $20.5-billion investment commitment to India.
The Hyderabad cloud region has three availability zones and is designed to support cloud and AI workloads. Microsoft already has cloud regions in Pune, Chennai and Mumbai, making Hyderabad its fourth location in the country.
Microsoft India and South Asia President Puneet Chandok said the new region will help meet the rising demand for AI infrastructure in India. The company also said the Hyderabad region will serve as a strategic hub for Asia and the Global South.
The new infrastructure will also support businesses that need to keep data and digital operations within India. Microsoft said the facility uses effectively zero-water cooling and is designed with sustainability in mind.
Microsoft has also said it has already equipped more than 10 million Indians with AI skills and aims to reach 20 million by 2030.
