President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday warned that any companies thinking of outsourcing jobs will have to face consequences. Donald Trump recently became successful in persuading an air conditioner manufacturer to keep around 1,000 jobs in the United States and not send them to Mexico. On a visit to Carrier Corp plant in Indianapolis, Trump said “Companies are not going to leave the United States anymore without consequences. Not going to happen.”

Though Trump did not say what the consequences would be, he has frequently threatened during the election campaign that an import tax of 35 percent would be levied on those American companies that outsource their jobs. It is unclear what steps would have to be taken by Federal authorities before Trump could retaliate against individual companies shifting jobs abroad.
During the visit, Trump also did not mention what consequences Carrier’s parent company, United Technologies, would face as they have plans to move 1300 Indiana jobs to Mexico. Trump has said in his video message of first hundred day plan that his main goal was to make America great again. For this, he stressed that all American jobs should and must belong to Americans. Time and again during his campaign, to appeal to the blue collars, Trump has taken a stand against Carrier Corp., for plans to shift their manufacturing unit to Mexico. Apparently this pressure from Trump seemed to have an effect and Carrier announced this week that they are keeping the 1000 jobs in its plant and headquarters.

The President-elect said that these negotiations were a mock model for how he would approach other businesses in the United States that outsource jobs for saving money and convince them to keep it here. He gave a pledge in regard to safer jobs, lower taxes and few regulations on export and imports. In regard to this, he said,”I just want to let all of the other companies know that we’re going to do great things for business. There’s no reason for them to leave any more.” He warned, “If that approach did not work, there would be penalties.”
