Mr. Asaddudin Owaisi, the President of the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) made remarks about the Lakhimpur violent case.  On the 14th of December, he addressed the media and said,  “Now that it is known that the Lakhimpur incident was a planned murder, the Prime Minister should remove the minister from his post on moral grounds.  He won’t do it because that minister comes from (the) upper caste and (the) PM wants their vote in the upcoming UP elections.”

His remarks came after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) completed their probe and demanded “Attempt to murder” charges for the accused.

What was the incident?

On the 3rd of October, eight people were killed after a SUV driven by Ashish Mishra Teni (the son of Mr. Ajay Mishra Teni, the Union Home Minister for Uttar Pradesh) and 11 others ran over them.  The incident not only sparked tension anmongst the protesting farmers but also gave political mileage to the opposition, demanding strict action against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader’s son, who is responsibile for the murder.

According to sources, the incident took place between 2:30 P.M., to 3:30 P.M., and Mr. Upendra Agarwal, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) who is responsible in the case, said that the  minister’s son had failed to produce evidence of his whereabouts at the time of the incident.  However, Ashish Mishra Teni denied the allegations and claimed to be present at a wrestling match in Banveerpur and not in Tinkuna, where the incident took place.  In addition, the lawyer of Mr. Ashish Mishra Teni produced the CCTV footage, where Mr. Ashish Mishra Teni was seen attending the event.  However, the CCTV footage timing is not between 2:30 P.M., to 3:30 P.M., but before and after.  Some of the photos and videos show that Ashish Mishra Teni was on the dais in Banveerpur at 2:02 P.M., and 3:47 P.M.

The SIT started the investigation in November after the Apex Court directed a SIT invention.  The month long investigation concluded on the 14th of December.

Upon the investigation of the SIT,  the AIMIM Chief said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should remove Minister of State (MoS,) Home Mr. Ajay Mishra Teni from his post on moral grounds.
