Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has issued orders for the implementation of a new free sand policy aimed at bolstering the construction sector. Announced through a directive (JIVO) by Mukesh Kumar Meena, Principal Secretary of the Department of Mines, the policy follows key decisions made in a meeting on October 21. The policy removes fees on sand transportation, including scenery fees and District Mineral Foundation (DMF) charges, making sand accessible for construction without any cost.
The decision intends to boost employment by supporting the construction industry and ensuring the local availability of sand, facilitating smoother and more affordable transport options. The government has introduced modifications to the existing sand policy to combat black marketing and improve supply efficiency.
Enhanced vigilance measures have been directed, including the use of GPS monitoring and strengthened check posts to curb unauthorized sand transportation. Additionally, the policy outlines self-quarrying options and the setup of stockyards in districts where sand is limited. Officials are tasked with implementing these guidelines to prevent illegal movement and ensure regulated sand distribution across the state.
