Andhra Pradesh Increases Liquor Prices By More 50 %, Total Hike Is75 %

The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government, on the 5th of May, increased the liquor prices by more than 50 % for the consumers.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., decided to increase the prices of alcohol by another 50 %, making the total hike in prices to 75 % in the State.

On the 4th of May, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government announced a 25 % hike in alcohol sales in A.P.  

A day after, with an agenda to reduce alcohol consumption, the State Government increased the prices by another 50 %.  

With the increased rate, the State Government is expected to generate a revenue of Rs. 9,000 crores per annum.

The State Government also plans to reduce the number of alcohol shops in the State by 15 % at the end of May.   The alcohol business in Andhra Pradesh is under the State Government.

All the registered alcohol shops in the State could open in Green Zones from 12 noon to 7:00 P.M., following the social distancing guidelines and increased prices. 

The increased 75 % on alcohol price comes in effect immediately from the 5th of May.
