Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh has criticized the previous YSRCP government, citing a national survey report by Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) that highlights the decline in the state’s education system under Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure. Lokesh accused the former government of spending hundreds of crores on publicity while failing to take basic measures to improve education standards.
According to the ASER 2024 report, the quality of government education in Andhra Pradesh was significantly better during the TDP regime in 2018 but deteriorated under YSRCP. The report highlights school closures, poor literacy and numeracy skills among students, reduced attendance, and a lack of infrastructure such as drinking water and toilets as key issues that affected government schools.
Lokesh revealed that in the past seven months, the current government has been working on revamping the education system, holding regular review meetings and implementing structural reforms. He assured that a new Andhra Pradesh Model of School Education would be introduced soon, with inputs from educators and the public to bring radical improvements.
