Amaravati: In a significant move, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to distribute house plots to the poor in State. During a review meeting on the housing department, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reaffirmed his election promise by allocating 3 cents of land in villages and 2 cents in towns to new beneficiaries, according to Housing Minister Parthasarathy.
The policy aims to provide 3 cents for rural poor and 2 cents for urban poor, even in areas where the previous government did not lay out land for housing. Naidu emphasized that housing construction is a top priority for his administration, with plans to complete 1.25 lakh houses within the next 100 days and 8.25 lakh houses in the upcoming year.
Naidu criticized the previous government for neglecting beneficiaries of NTR houses and ordered payments to affected individuals. The minister also announced the creation of MIG layouts for middle-class families and low-cost housing for journalists. The housing department may take over Polavaram R&R housing construction, ensuring completion of already started projects.
The review highlighted the previous government’s mismanagement, causing a Rs. 10,000 crore loss in the housing sector. The minister noted that between 2014-2019, the state funded housing for four and a half lakh people, but without necessary infrastructure.
