Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh emphasized that the state government is giving high priority to education by encouraging private and foreign universities. Introducing the AP Private Universities Establishment and Regularization Act Amendment Bill in the Legislative Assembly, he highlighted the government’s commitment to decentralizing development through private institutions.

Lokesh recalled that the Private Universities Act was introduced in 2016 to boost higher education in the state. He noted that Centurion University was already established in Visakhapatnam and that the amendment bill aims to bring institutional reforms to private universities.

The minister revealed plans to bring foreign university campuses to Andhra Pradesh, stating that 70 acres have been allocated in Amaravati for BITS Pilani, while major companies like Tata are also showing interest. He further announced the government’s vision to establish a Deep Tech University, an AI University, and a Sports University in Visakhapatnam. Efforts are underway to attract top universities from across the country to set up campuses in Andhra Pradesh.
