Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh issued financial aid for imams and muezzins in the State.
Mr. Reddy on the 10th of November, announced a sum of Rs. 23 crores for Muslim religious elders including imams.
Aleem Basha, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Waqf Board in Andhra Pradesh issued the notification as per CM’s orders.
During a media conference, Mr. Basha said the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government announced to deposit Rs. 23 crore in the accounts of the respective waqf institutions. The amount would be deposited in two days, the 11th and the 12th of November.
Aleem Basha said the YSRCP Government had released Rs. 3,000 for Imams and Rs. 5000 for Muezzins.
From April to September this year, funds were released to 10,000 beneficiaries in the state.
In 2019, the State Government spent Rs. 49.6 crore as financial aid also known as honorarium to imams and muezzins in the State.
The step is one of the promises of the YSRCP manifesto released in 2018 during the Andhra Pradesh Assembly election campaign.
