The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government decided not to conduct Grama Panchayat Polls in February.

The State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, who issued a statement to conduct the Panchayat elections in February 2021, received unexpected shock by the the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP Government.

During a hearing over the same in the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC,) the State Government asked to delay the elections.  The representative of the YSRCP Government said, the Novel Coronavirus vaccination process is about to begin, hence it would be a bad idea to conduct elections.

On the 15th of December, during the hearing on a filed additional affidavit on the conduct of the elections, the State Government put logics and asked for time.

The YSRCP Government told the High Court that the Central Government had issued guidelines on the Coronavirus vaccination process.  They said personnel from all departments, including the police, should be deployed to manage the vaccination process.

The centre said the second dose should be given four weeks after the first dose. The affidavit states that the vaccination process should be carried out in the same way as the electoral process and that the vaccination process should be given priority in terms of public health.

So the state Government has decided not to hold panchayat elections in February.

The SEC counsel told the court that he had received the additional affidavit last night and needed time to file a counterclaim.

The court adjourned the case till next Friday, the 25th of December.

The next hearing date is yet to be announced.

Stay tuned for further updates.
