The municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh have drawn attention as the state awaits a fresh picture of public support for its major political parties. The results are expected to show how urban voters view the ruling alliance and the opposition.
Vote counting began at 8 AM on November 3 across 92 urban local bodies, including 13 municipal corporations and 79 municipalities and nagar panchayats. The main contest is between the ruling alliance of TDP, Jana Sena and BJP and the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
According to the State Election Commission, counting covers 3,186 wards. Officials have arranged 138 counting centres, 556 halls and 6,831 tables to complete the process. Around 47,817 staff members have been deployed, while 1,372 CCTV cameras are being used to monitor the counting centres.
The elections recorded a final voter turnout of 62.16%, with 60,22,411 votes cast out of 96,89,061 registered voters.
Early trends were expected around noon, while the full results were expected by Tuesday evening or night. The outcome will decide the mayors, municipal chairpersons, corporators and ward members across the state.
