Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on the 22nd of April, wrote a letter to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.)

In the letter, Mr. Naidu demanded the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government to pay full pension to the retired government employees.

Mr. Naidu wrote, “Since the pensions are over 60 years of age, the medical expenses are higher due to the ailments that come with age.  It is against this backdrop that all retired employees have to be given a full pension (sic.)”

The letter of Mr. Naidu came after the State Government’s decision to cut 50 % pension of retired government employees.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced a cut of 100 % in the salaries of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs,) Ministers and other top officials.  Besides, 50 % cut in pensioners, and 60 % cut in salaries of Indian Administrative Service (IAS,) Indian Public Service (IPS) and Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers in the State.

Mr. Reddy said full salary would be given only to the healthcare staff, police officials and sanitation workers who are fighting against the Novel Coronavirus infection in the State.

However, Chandrababu Naidu showed disappointment over the decision of cutting pension and demanded release of the full pension amount.

Mr. Naidu said the Government is violating the rights of pensioners and making them suffer during this difficult time of pandemic situation due to COVID-19.
