On the 7th of April, Thursday, the entire Cabinet of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government, resigned.  Andhra Pradesh’s Cabinet got dissolved on the 7th of April, after completing the final Cabinet meeting.  All the 24 ministers submitted their resignation letters to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The development came after the State Chief Minister submitted the final list of ministers who were going to resign today.  In addition, the new Council of Ministers would be inducted on the 11th of April.  While the reconstituted Cabinet would include new faces, only 4 ministers would retain the post and would be re-appointed.

The appointment of the new Cabinet ministers would be based on caste criteria, which is likely to play a key role in the formation of the new cabinet.

Notably, the current Cabinet was sworn in on the 8th of June, 2019, and was supposed to be in office till the 8th of December, 2021.

However, due to the Wuhan virus pandemic, the process of reconstitution of the Cabinet was put on hold.  Last month, the Chief Minister announced that he would undertake the Cabinet reorganization after Ugadi (Telugu New Year’s Day that fell on April 2) and the subsequent formation of new districts.

The new districts came into being on April 4, clearing the way for the Cabinet rejig.

According to indications from the ruling YSR Congress, the existing structure of the Council of Ministers would be retained, with five Deputy Chief Ministers in place.  In addition, one DCM post will be given each to a legislator belonging to SC, ST, Muslim, Backward Caste, and Kapu communities.

Based on the caste calculations, at least four incumbent ministers may be re-inducted into the new Cabinet.  In the case of two ministers, there are no alternative candidates available from the same caste.

The final announcement of the new Cabinet minister would be announced soon.
