Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government is set to launch a single window system for building permits, allowing citizens to obtain necessary approvals from multiple departments through a single online portal. The new policy, expected to be implemented by January 2025, aims to streamline the permit process and curb illegal practices and delays.
Various department ministers have already convened meetings, with another scheduled later this month to finalize the system’s framework. The initiative is designed to reduce corruption, as the previous system forced people to pay bribes at multiple levels for construction approvals.
Currently, applicants submit building permit requests online through the Development Permission Management System (DPMS). However, obtaining no-objection certificates (NOCs) from departments such as Fire, Airport Authority, and Revenue often results in significant delays. The new system will integrate these departments into DPMS, allowing for simultaneous NOC applications and approvals online.
Officials have assured that applications with correct documentation will face no delays, but incomplete or fraudulent submissions will be flagged during the post-verification process, and any illicit permits will be revoked.
This reform marks a significant step in enhancing transparency and efficiency in urban development.
