The Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd., is all set to bring Guntur chillies as a new brand in India.

On the 15th of December,Chandragiri Yesuratnam, the Guntur Mirchi Yard Chairman, conducted a meeting and decided to come up with a brand for Guntur Chillies.

Famous across the Country, hot chillies grown in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh have a global market value.

Since Guntur is the main producer and exporter of varieties of these chillies, the idea of Guntur chillies as a brand would bring fame to Guntur and Andhra Pradesh.

In regard to this, the Guntur Agricultural Market Committee would soon begin the process.

So far, the chillies were exported across the globe without any specific brand.

However, now with this new brand strategy, the Committee decided to manufacture and sell chilli powder with its own brand name.

Mr. Yesuratnam is confident of entering into the processing sector and giving competition to established chilli manufacturers like ITC. He said, “we are not worried about the competition in the market because there is huge demand for end consumer products from agricultural produce. We are confident of creating our own market base after the launch of the products.”

The decision to do the same was taken considering the high demand of Guntur chillies in India and abroad.

According to sources, the Guntur Mirchi Yard exports around Rs. 6,000 crore of produce annually.

Export of chillies to China, Thailand, Singapore and other countries are estimated at Rs. 2,000 crores per year.

The concerned authorities have already purchased the necessary equipment required to test the quality of the produce for processing units.

The processing units would be set up at Guntur Mirchi Yard and Palnadu Market Committee after checking the market response.

The establishment of these chilli processing units would also benefit farmers with high prices and additional income to the market committees in Guntur.

The chilli powder is likely to be marketed under the brand name “Guntur Karam.”

However, an official announcement is yet to be made.

Stay tuned for further updates.
