
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Harish Kumar Gupta as the new Director General of Police (DGP) following an order issued by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand. Gupta will take over from CH Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who is set to retire on January 31.
A 1992-batch IPS officer, Harish Kumar Gupta is currently serving as the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement. During the 2024 general elections, he was temporarily appointed as DGP by the Election Commission. After the new government took charge, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao was made DGP, while Gupta returned to his previous post.
The government has also assigned Harish Kumar Gupta additional responsibilities along with his new role. Meanwhile, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao will continue as the Managing Director of APSRTC for one year starting February 1.
The appointment of Harish Kumar Gupta is expected to bring new leadership to Andhra Pradesh’s police force, ensuring efficient law enforcement and governance.
