Vijayawada: State Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has taken decisive action following the recent incident at Nuzividu IIIT, where a significant number of students fell ill after consuming contaminated food. Expressing serious concern over the negligence involved, Minister Lokesh has ordered the immediate removal of the Nuzividu IIIT Director. In a bid to restore trust among students and their parents, he has appointed a three-member supervisory committee to oversee the institution’s operations.
The committee, consisting of Commissioner of College Education Pola Bhaskar, In-charge Chairman of the Higher Education Department Rammohan Rao, and Eluru Collector K. Vetri Selvi, will focus on several key areas. They will ensure strict adherence to standard protocols for food quality control and implement rigorous sanitation and hygiene standards in the mess and hostels. Additionally, the committee will oversee necessary minor repairs within the IIIT campus.
An internal grievance committee will be established to address and act on complaints, particularly those related to sexual harassment, with a zero-tolerance approach to negligence. The committee will also enforce a drug-free and tobacco-free environment across the institution.
To address mental health, the committee will work to reduce stress and promote healthy life skills among students. A College Wellness Team, consisting of the Dean of Student Welfare, senior faculty members, student monitors, and representatives from the parents’ association, will be formed to provide support and maintain a safety net for vulnerable students.
